FOUNDATIONS

What Is the Kingdom of Elohim?

The Kingdom of Elohim must be defined by Scripture itself, not by political models, church structures, or later theological systems.

1. THE KINGDOM IS NOT A PLACE ONLY — IT IS A RULE

In Scripture, the Kingdom of Elohim is not first defined as a location (such as heaven), but as the sovereign reign and authority of Elohim.

“Yours is the kingdom, O YHWH, and You are exalted as head above all.”
— 1 Chronicles 29:11

A kingdom exists wherever a king’s authority is recognized and obeyed. Thus, the Kingdom of Elohim is His rule exercised over creation.

2. THE KINGDOM BEGINS AT CREATION

The Kingdom did not begin with Israel, the Messiah’s ministry, or the New Testament era. It begins at creation, when Elohim speaks and creation obeys.

“YHWH has established His throne in the heavens,
and His kingdom rules over all.”
— Psalm 103:19

Creation itself is evidence of the Kingdom:

  • Elohim commands

  • Order follows

  • Life responds

This is kingdom language from the very first chapter of Genesis.

3. THE KINGDOM WAS ANNOUNCED, NOT INVENTED, BY THE MESSIAH

When the Messiah begins His ministry, His central message is not a new religion, but the nearness of the Kingdom.

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of Elohim is at hand.
Repent and believe the gospel.”
— Mark 1:15

This announcement assumes:

  • The Kingdom already exists

  • Humanity has drifted from alignment with it

  • Restoration requires repentance (a turning back)

The Messiah does not abolish the Kingdom—He reveals, embodies, and restores access to it.

4. THE KINGDOM IS PRESENT AND FUTURE

Scripture presents the Kingdom in two complementary dimensions:

Present Reality

“The kingdom of Elohim is not eating and drinking,
but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
— Romans 14:17

Where Elohim’s will is obeyed, the Kingdom is present.

Future Fulfillment

“Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
— Matthew 6:10

The Kingdom is already active, but not yet fully manifested in its restored, universal order.

5. THE KINGDOM IS THE CENTRAL MESSAGE OF SCRIPTURE

After His resurrection, the Messiah continues teaching the same subject:

“He presented Himself alive… speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of Elohim.”
— Acts 1:3

Likewise, the apostles preach the Kingdom as the core of their message:

“Paul… was proclaiming the kingdom of Elohim
and teaching about the Lord Messiah Yahusha.”
— Acts 28:31

The Gospel, the Messiah, and Scripture itself all converge on the Kingdom.

6. WHAT THE KINGDOM IS NOT

For clarity, the Kingdom of Elohim is not:

  • A political empire

  • A denominational institution

  • A replacement for Israel

  • A metaphor only

  • A future heaven with no present relevance

Scripture presents it as real, authoritative, moral, and restorative.

7. WHY THIS MATTERS

How the Kingdom is understood determines:

  • How the Gospel is preached

  • How obedience is viewed

  • How restoration is expected

  • How the future is envisioned

If the Kingdom is reduced to the afterlife, Scripture loses its call to faithful living now.

“Seek first the kingdom of Elohim and His righteousness.”
— Matthew 6:33
This article establishes a Scripture-based definition of the Kingdom of Elohim, independent of denominational tradition, grounded in the unified testimony of Scripture.
