WHAT IS AN APPOINTED TIME (MO'EDIM)?

📖

Key Scriptures:

Leviticus 23:2

Exodus 23:14-17

Psalm 104:19

"And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."

"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead."

— Acts 17:26-28, 30-31 (KJV)

Many people think the Biblical Feasts are merely Jewish holidays.

Scripture says otherwise.

For instance, The Exodus provides clarity when Moses specified the Feasts were not for a bloodline, but included the "stranger who dwell among you [Gentiles as well; Numbers 15:16].

The Hebrew word translated "feasts" is Mo'edim (מוֹעֲדִים), meaning appointed times, appointed meetings, or divine appointments.

These are not the appointments of Israel and YasharEl ("Elohim is Upright": the actual word in Hebrew which cannot be rendered "Israel") is not defined by borders and bloodlines but by covenant very specifically throughout scripture. No fragment can overcome that.

These are the appointments of Yahuah.

From the beginning, the Creator established times and seasons for His purposes.

"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons (וּלְמוֹעֲדִים: *môʿēḏim)*, and for days, and years:"

— Genesis 1:14

The word translated "seasons" is also Mo'edim.

Before there was a nation called Israel...

Before Sinai...

Before the Temple...

Yahuah established His calendar in creation itself.

The Sabbath, Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Shavuot, Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles are not merely memorials of past events.

They are divine appointments that reveal His plan of redemption from beginning to end.

Passover points to the capture of Messiah (they cooked the Passover and Yahusha and the 12 came and ate... The Passover of course as that is what they prepared; Mark 14:17, Matthew 26:20, Luke 22:14).

Unleavened Bread points to His sacrifice and resurrection.

He was the First Fruits from among the dead. (Corinthians 15:20)

Shavuot points to covenant, Yahusha's birth, and the outpouring of the Spirit.

Trumpets announces the coming King.

Atonement points to judgment and reconciliation.

Tabernacles points to the Kingdom when He dwells with His people. New Jerusalem comes down from Heaven and we receive our new bodies.

The Mo'edim are not man-made traditions, nor can they pass away.

They are Yah's calendar.

They are His invitations.

They are His appointments with His people.

Discussion Question:

If Yahuah calls these "My Feasts" and "My Appointed Times," should believers today understand what they mean?
